Dominicana

Posted by tpegonline on October 26, 2012

This poem is for the ladies of the Dominican Republic. This poem is a series of 17 haiku poems that are strung together in a series to tell a story. I call this style that I created a haiku chain poem. According to Dictionary.com, a haiku is a major form of Japanese verse, written in 17 syllables divided into 3 lines of 5, 7, and 5 syllables, and employing highly evocative allusions and comparisons, often on the subject of nature or one of the seasons; or a poem written in this form.

All of my poems have the title of the poem in the last line of the poem. Also, song titles and movie titles have been hyperlinked to their respective audio files and summary pages on GrooveShark.com or IMDB.com.

This poem is part of my Caribbean Queens Series.

Three continents flow
through your veins making you such
a lovely creature.

Child of Taino,
Spain and West Africa. All
the best of three worlds.

Cocoa complexion
tanned by the Caribbean
sun. So soft yet firm.

Full, luscious, ruby
red lips, round hips and shapely
legs. You Turn Me On.

Whenever I leave
your bed in the early hours
of the new morning

I whisper the words
to one of your favorite
songs, Volvere

One time, You asked me
to stay, Pero muñeca,
Me Tengo Que Ir
.

You told me that if
I stay you’d make mangu, eggs
and turkey sausage.

Sounded like a good
plan to me so I got back in
the bed beside you.

As you look In My
Eyes
, what do you see? Do you
see the dancing hearts?

It is because
I love you so. I only
rush out to go work.

I don’t really want
to leave you, but I want us
to have a future.

Not any future,
but a bright, prosperous one.
For us and our kids.

Without you, chula
Ain’t No Sunshine in my life.
Your mind, goals and soul.

Also, Tu Cuerpo
Me Arrebata
. Can’t
Get Enough
of you.

Zoe Saldana
starred in Columbiana, she
has roots in DR.

You’re proud of your home.
When asked, you smile and say, “Soy
Dominicana.”
